Export volume remained at the same level as last year in December according to preliminary data
According to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports increased by 0.4 per cent in December year-on-year. The value of Finnish exports in December was EUR 6.0 billion. Export volume remained at the same level as last year and export prices declined by 0.2 per cent year-on-year.
The value of imports increased by 0.3 per cent in December and was EUR 6.2 billion. Import prices declined by 3.0 per cent, but import volume increased by 5.5 per cent compared to December 2024.
In 2025, the aggregated value of exports increased by 3.0 per cent and the value of imports by 0.4 per cent year-on-year. Change of export volume during the latest 12 months was +3.8 per cent (12 month moving average January 2025 – December 2025). The corresponding figure for import volume was +2.9 per cent.
The trade balance was in deficit of EUR 210 million in December. In 2025, the aggregated deficit amounted to EUR 855 million. In December 2024, the trade balance was EUR 217 million in deficit and in January-December of the same year, the aggregated deficit was EUR 2.7 billion.
The volume of intra-EU exports decreased, external exports volume increased in December
Value of exports to EU member states decreased by 8.4 per cent, but increased to non-EU countries by 12.6 per cent in December compared to the same month the previous year. The volume of exports to EU countries decreased by 8.2 per cent, but increased to non-EU countries by 11.6 per cent during the same time.
Calculated from the beginning of the year, the value of exports to EU countries remained at the same level as the previous year, but increased to non-EU countries by 7.3 per cent. The volume of exports to EU member states remained at the same level as last year, and the volume of exports to non-EU countries increased by 7.3 per cent calculated according to a 12-month moving average.
Value of imports from EU countries decreased by 2.1 per cent, but increased from non-EU countries by 3.6 per cent in December. The volume of imports from EU member states remained at the same level as last year, but increased from non-EU countries by 13.3 per cent.
Calculated from the beginning of the year, value of imports from EU member states increased by 0.3 per cent, and from other countries by 0.6 per cent. The volume of imports from EU member states increased by 0.1 per cent and from non-EU countries by 6.1 per cent calculated according to a 12-month moving average.
In this publication preliminary statistics under table 6 are listed export and import values and percentage change by country. The values in the table are preliminary and significant changes are possible when data becomes more complete.
