Export volume decreased by 1.6 per cent in September according to preliminary data
According to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports decreased by 3.1 per cent in September year-on-year. The value of Finnish exports in September was EUR 6.3 billion. Export volume decreased by 1.6 per cent and export prices declined by 1.4 per cent year-on-year.
The value of imports increased by 6.7 per cent in September and was EUR 6.7 billion. Import prices declined by 0.3 per cent, but import volume increased by 8.5 per cent compared to September 2024.
In January-September 2025, the aggregated value of exports increased by 3.2 per cent, but the value of imports decreased by 0.1 per cent year-on-year. Change of export volume during the latest 12 months was +0.8 per cent (12 month moving average October 2024 – September 2025). The corresponding figure for import volume was +1.8 per cent.
The trade balance was in deficit of EUR 430 million in September. In January-September, the aggregated deficit amounted to EUR 225 million. In September 2024, the trade balance was EUR 193 million in surplus and in January-September of the same year, the aggregated deficit was EUR 2.0 billion.
The volume of intra-EU exports increased, external exports decreased in September
Value of exports to EU member states increased by 6.2 per cent, but declined to non-EU countries by 14.3 per cent in September compared to the same month the previous year. The volume of exports to EU countries increased by 6.3 per cent, but decreased to non-EU countries by 12.6 per cent during the same time.
Calculated from the beginning of the year, the value of exports to EU countries increased by 1.1 per cent and to non-EU countries by 6.2 per cent. The volume of exports to EU member states increased by 2.3 per cent, but the volume of exports to non-EU countries decreased by 3.1 per cent calculated according to a 12-month moving average.
Value of imports from EU countries increased by 4.1 per cent and from non-EU countries by 10.2 per cent in September. The volume of imports from EU member states increased by 2.7 per cent and from non-EU countries by 16.3 per cent.
Calculated from the beginning of the year, value of imports from EU member states increased by 0.4 per cent, but declined from other countries by 0.9 per cent. The volume of imports from EU member states increased by 0.5 per cent and from non-EU countries by 3.3 per cent calculated according to a 12-month moving average.
In this publication preliminary statistics under table 6 are listed export and import values and percentage change by country. The values in the table are preliminary and significant changes are possible when data becomes more complete.
