Exports increased by 15.9 per cent in August

According to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports increased by 15.9 per cent, and the value of imports by 22.2 per cent in August year-on-year. The value of Finnish exports in August was EUR 5.1 billion and the value of imports EUR 5.7 billion. During the reference month in 2020 exports decreased by 13.2 per cent and imports by 12.7 per cent.

In January-August 2021, the total value of exports increased by 15.7 per cent and the value of imports by 15.3 per cent year-on-year.

The trade balance was EUR 590 million in deficit in August. In January-August, the aggregated trade balance ran a deficit of EUR 2.8 billion. In August 2020, the trade balance was EUR 254 million in deficit, and in January-August it was EUR 2.5 billion in deficit.

Exports to EU member states increased by 19.9 per cent and exports to non-EU countries by 11.1 per cent in August. Imports from EU countries increased by 19.5 per cent and imports from non-EU countries by 26.0 per cent. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU countries rose by 15.5 per cent and to non-EU countries by 16.0 per cent. During the same period, imports from EU member states rose by 16.0 per cent and from other countries by 14.3 per cent.

The monthly preliminary statistics release contains preliminary overall figures about Finland's international trade in goods. More precise figures of exports and imports as well as detailed statistics about specific countries and goods will be published at the end of the month in the monthly statistical release.
